From Bethesda

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the most richly detailed and vibrant game-world ever created. This new chapter uses next-generation technologies to createa fully immersive gaming adventure. The Emperor of Tamriel has been assassinated and the killer still runs loose; meanwhile, no heir sits on the throne. With no Emperor upon the throne, the gates of Oblivion open wide and demons invade. Your quest is to find the lost heir and place him on the throne, before demons destroy the land. Next-generation graphics with pixel-shader effects for High-Definition TVs, creating lifelike towns&dungeons and the most realistic forests

The first 10 minutes of this game is incredibly boring. In fact, my husband and brother both put this down by then, but when I got past creating my character (which takes a ridiculous amount of time, btw) and got out of the sewers, it was a whole new world. You can choose any quests, go anywhere, be anything. If you want to be a good guy, no problem. If you want to be evil, just kill someone who doesn't deserve it and some guy pops out of the shadows to get you into his evil guild. Very cool. Some of it is repetitious to build up your skills, but you can choose any skills you want to specialize in and some minor skills. You can make potions, even if you aren't an alchemist, you can do spells, or melee, or sneak. I hunted deer and got venison! I think that was what got my husband back into the game, come to think of it!
